WHY does material stick to a conveyor belt?
During the transport of bulk materials, material can stick to the conveyor belt. This is also known as carryback. Certain material properties or environmental factors (such as a high humidity) have a significant influence on this.
WHY is material left behind on a conveyor belt a problem?
Carryback can lead to:
- Spillage of material in undesirable locations
- Conveyor belt misalignment
- Wear and tear on the conveyor belt and surrounding components
It also increases the risk of contamination, additional maintenance and unplanned downtime.
WHAT is a belt scraper?
A belt scraper consists of one or more scraper segments that are positioned against the conveyor belt at a preset pressure.
HOW does a belt scraper work?
As the conveyor belt passes, material left behind is removed from the belt surface by the scraper segments. A properly adjusted belt scraper does not damage the conveyor belt, removes the material left behind and keeps the conveyor belt clean.
Depending on the application, the product and the degree of contamination, one or more scrapers may be used. Commonly used positions are directly against the head pulley (primary scraper) and on the return side (secondary scraper).
